Plantation has a farmer’s market!  This is great news, especially for those of us who love organic fruits and vegetables.  Started back in March, the farmer’s market is open every Saturday, at Volunteer Park from 8-12.  We are lucky in Plantation that the weather is such that the farmer’s market is open all year round.  We are also fortunate that the produce sold here at the market is locally grown or it is brought in from other parts of the state.  One of the primary reasons the City of Plantation opened this farmers market, was to inform and educate, especially young people, on the importance of being environmentally aware.  Well, I think this is a great place to start.  If you have already stopped by the Plantation Farmers Market, share you’re experience here on the blog, or let us know on our Facebook page. 

 

Mel Brooks is a comic genius.  He is the mastermind behind such great comedies such as Spaceballs (one of my favorites, I know, no accounting for taste, right?)  His musical The Producers, garnered him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1968.  This production made it’s Broadway debut in early 2000, starring the comedy talents of Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, for which Brooks received a Tony Award.  His most famous of course is Blazing Saddles, which didn’t win any notable awards, but it still is the funniest movie of it’s time.  Young Frankenstein is another of Brooks masterpieces, comedy wise.  Starring Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle (as the monster) and Marty Feldman. It is a parody of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, but with more comic flair.  The stage production of Young Frankenstein is heading you’re way, The Broward Center of Performing Arts are showing it October 6-17, 2010.  You cannot miss this sensational musical comedy, it will laugh you right out of you’re seat.

An all star cast, Matt Dillon, Hayden Christiansen and Paul Walker are just three of the big names that are appearing together in The Takers.  They are a group of bank robbers, who have so far remained undetected by the law, until, they decided to do one last job.  Considering the other release this weekend, “The Last Exorcism,” I think that there is a strong possibility that The Takers could win the number one spot at the box office this weekend.

The Davie Pro Rodeo is coming up on September 11, 2010.  The rodeo is an American tradition and for some, a way of life.  The DPR is entering it’s 24th year of professional rodeo and those professionals come from all over the country to compete at this rodeo.  Davie Pro Rodeo isn’t just a place where the cowboys come to ride, it is also an arena for the younger generation to come and compete on the rodeo circuit. 

This event will be held at the Davie Arena, Fort Lauderdale.

Come and see your favorite Disney characters Mickey and Minnie as skate their way through a Magical Journey.  I have seen Disney on Ice, three times and have thoroughly enjoyed the show.  All my favorites came to life on the ice and made the young kids squeal with delight.  If you have small children this would be a great show to take them to.  The Magical Journey begins Thursday September 16, 2010 at 7:30pm at the Bank Atlantic Center.  The center is about 11 minutes from the Laurels.

I am having “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” flashes.  The Schakolad Chocolate Factory in Davie, is inviting children from the ages of 6-14, into their factory to get hands-on experience in the art of chocolate making.  The children will be able to create their own chocolate masterpieces with the help of the experts and will learn how chocolate is made.  This is a fun activity, maybe even the mom’s and dad’s will be able to join in.

SHAKIRA!  Will be performing at the BankAtlantic Center, September 25, 2010.  The Colombian born singer, songwriter made her mark on the music industry with her signature hip shaking videos.  She recently sang the official song of the FIFA World Cup 2010.  Currently on a world tour she is making a stop here to delight her fans with old and new songs.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Julia Roberts!  I don’t think as an actress I have ever seen her in a bad movie?  And this new movie, Eat Pray Love, is going to be no exception.  Written by Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat Pray Love is the story of one woman’s journey of discovery.  A series of events, such a divorce, send Robert’s on a global trip to rediscover who she is.  I have no doubt that this award winning novel by Gilbert, will be a smash at the box office when it opens August 13.

Follow these 3 simple steps and you will reduce the clutter in your apartment.

1. One thing that I always do before I leave for work is make the bed.  There’s nothing worse than an unmade bed.  It looks messy and gives the appearance of having an untidy bedroom.
2. Never leave dishes in the sink.  Put them in the dishwasher, so when you come home, you come home to a clean kitchen.
3. I always put the cushions back on the couch properly.  Everyone piles them up and leans on their cushions, putting them back will not leave you with a messy looking living room.
